Is this EBO2 quote in line with what clinics publish?

Five questions to ask about any quote

1. What exactly is included? Ask whether the price covers the consultation and any screening labs as well as the session, or whether those are billed separately. Our cost guide found a clinic that prices them apart.
2. What is the refund policy on a package? Packages are commonly sold as prepayments that are not refunded. Ask what happens to unused sessions if you stop partway, and get the answer in writing.
3. Does the price assume an add-on? Some clinics bundle light therapy or IV nutrients into some prices and not others. Ask which version of the session the quote is for.
4. Who supervises the session? Ask who is licensed, who performs the session, and who is on site if you react during it. See how to choose a clinic.

What this tool does

It places a quote among the prices clinics publish: how many charge less, the same, and more; whether the quote is in the lowest quarter, the middle half, or the highest quarter of published prices; and how far it is from the median. It works for a single session or a package, and it marks the price on the chart above.

How the comparison is made

We use the single-session prices clinics publish on their own EBO2 or EBOO pages, as our research pass read them: the exact words and the page are saved, and a script checks the words against the saved text of the pages we read for that clinic. Only clinics whose EBO2 page the pass could read count, the same rule as our price report and every other price figure on the site. A package is divided by its number of sessions and rounded to the nearest dollar, because the published prices are for one session.

We count the published prices below, equal to, and above your price per session. The quartiles split the published prices into four groups of about equal size: a quarter of prices fall below the first quartile and three quarters below the third, and the median is the middle price. Where a quartile falls between two prices, it is interpolated between them. The middle half is everything from the first quartile to the third.

With fewer than 5 published prices, the tool does not place a quote at all, because the quartiles of so few prices would mislead. For a package, where a clinic publishes both a package and a single-session price, we compare the package's price per session with that clinic's single-session price, and report the median discount once there are at least 3 such packages.

What it cannot tell you

• These are single-session prices clinics advertise on their own websites, read on the dates shown. A clinic may have changed its price since.
• Discounts, memberships, and sales are not captured, and neither are prices a clinic gives only by phone or at a consultation.
• The sample is the clinics we list, not a random sample of the country. Clinics that publish a price may differ from those that do not.
• A quote can include things a published price does not, such as a consultation, labs, or an add-on, or leave out things it does.
• A lower price is not a better or safer treatment, and a higher one is not a better one. A price says nothing about whether the procedure works; see what the research shows.
