What the authors reported
A 46-year-old man without traditional atherosclerotic risk factors presented with acute inferior myocardial infarction after ozonated autohemotherapy at a private clinic that morning. Angiography showed vasospasm of the left main and proximal left anterior descending arteries, which resolved after nitrate, and a thrombotic total occlusion of the right coronary artery, which was stented.
What limits this result
Single case report, read from the abstract only. The authors present ozone as a possible cause, supported by timing and the literature they refer to; the abstract gives no ozone dose, blood volume, or follow-up, and it shows the event occurred, not how often it occurs.
Harms reported after ozone therapy, and studies of how ozone exposure affects health. One study rarely settles a medical question; our guides weigh each paper against the rest of the evidence.
How the study was done
- Design
- Case report: the authors discuss a single case
We discuss the case of a 46-year-old male patient presenting to the emergency department with acute inferior myocardial infarction.
- Setting
- Department of Cardiology, Antalya Education and Research Hospital, Antalya, Turkey (author affiliation)
- Read from
- Read from the abstract only; where this page says nothing about an item, the abstract does not report it. Read on October 2, 2026.

What it measured
- Coronary angiography, left main and left anterior descending arteries
- Vasospasm of the left main coronary artery and proximal segment of the left anterior descending artery
- Coronary angiography, right coronary artery
- Thrombotic total occlusion
- Response of the vasospasm to nitrate
- Vasospasm in the left main and left anterior descending artery disappeared after nitrate administration
- Intervention
- Stent implanted to the thrombotic occlusion in the right coronary artery after predilatation
- Atherosclerotic risk factors
- None of the traditional risk factors
- Thrombophilia mutations
- Factor V Leiden, prothrombin 20210, and MTHFR c677t negative; heterozygous for MTHFR a1298c
- Antithrombin III, homocysteine, protein C and protein S
- All within normal ranges
- Authors' conclusion
- The article may raise awareness of the possibility of thrombotic complications after ozonated autohemotherapy
